“It’s not only their unbelievable stature, nor the color that seems to shift and vary under your eyes, no, they are not like any trees we know, they are ambassadors from another time.” John Steinbeck
What is redwood tea, and why drink it?
Redwood tea is made from the green needles, boiled in filtered water with ginger, and sweetened with honey to create a soothing and immune boosting mixture into a cup of warmth. When you drink the tea made from these sweet and subtle needles you take in both the health benefits (vitamin C, antioxidants, immune support, respiratory support etc.), and also the majestic elements that redwoods represent. Redwood trees are symbols of strength, endurance, community, and connection. Imagine that with each sip, you are bringing in these elements into your body--grounding, soothing and healing.
Redwood needle tea has been used as herbal supplements, teas and oils with early Native American culture. This native culture has understood the essence of redwood trees as “peace givers”, and icons of wisdom, independence, and communication. While drinking this beautiful essence one can certainly embrace and feel the profound wisdom with each sip.
It is best made with fresh needles, as they hold the most nutrients in their raw, fresh form. Fresh ginger and honey pairs well to create a sweet, spicy and “foresty” flavor. These trees are ancient beings, so remember to pick the needles with permission and care for the trees, as they have grown for hundreds of years, and provide protection for you. Our connection with nature is a special one, and the more we can build a respectful communication with it, the more gifts we are able to exchange.
